    I'd say... it really depends.

Solar Power is better in places where you have lots of sunshine during a year. For that, the regions between the tropics would be ideal while other regions will get less sunshine in the same year.

Wind turbines is similar. You need to have strong winds most of the year. Otherwise, it won't be that useful.

Both take a lot of space, solar cells are generally more expensive, wind turbines tend to make noise, you to get maximum efficiency of solar power, one might need to make the solar panels move in accordance with the sun, solar power is obtained only during the day... there's a lot to talk about :)

Great points by unknown008. Wind Energy is preferable to me but they are very limited in locations that make sense. You need an average year round wind speed of 14 mph which is pretty tough to find. In these locations they are more cost effective than solar.

Solar Power is kind of a broad term that encompasses Passive Solar Design and Solar Hot Water but Iam sure you mean Photovoltaics PV.
The best thing about PV is that it can be used anywhere. The best way to use both wind and PV is to tie them to the grid.

Connect 3 small wind turbines to gain higher voltage? [ 1 Answers ]

Hi, I live in a low wind area and the small alternator I built produces 6 volts at about 250 RPMs which works will the VAWT I fabricated. I am trying to stay away for larger units and tall towers; so I am planning to construct 3 small turbines that are roof mounted and connect them to charge a...
