My dog won't eat just came home from vet after a mucusy vomit
I have a 2 year old 13 lb Chiweenie. We took her to the vent on Monday because she threw up a bloody mucus with one blade of grass in it. This is the first time she has ever thrown up anything that resembles blood. She stayed at the vets overnight. They did a radio graph (I believe that is what its call) this ruled out twisted stomach, mass in stomach, rupture of stomach and anything that could be wrong with intestines and bowls. She was not eating at the vets office which we thought would be normal because when my yellow lab was at the vet the chiweenie would not eat. So figured we would bring her home and all would be well. Unfortunately its not. She ate some soft dog food mixed with just a little bit of dry dog food on Tuesday night and again mid Monday. Since then she will not eat anything. She is on flagyl and an anti vomiting medicine. They do not know what is wrong with her. I called them and they said to bring her in to have the vet look at her but it is obvious that this is still the same issue. I do trust this vet because he saved my lab when she got bitten by a rattle snake two summer ago. I am just in search of some different things this could possibly be. Any help would be WONDERFUL. I want my Bella to be back to normal again.

Its really hard to say.. Maybe she has some bleeding in her throat or nose. The blood seeping into her stomach may make her sick which is why she is vomitting.

Just stick to the plan that the vet has in line for you. They know what's going on and are ruling out major problems.

Lucky is right... blood will make dogs, and us, vomit if enough is swallowed. Usually, it is a rather dark colored blood, since the stomach causes changes in it. Fresh blood that hasn't been down too long is often vomited reddish, like blood. But, grass simply by itself usually makes a dog vomit, and a dog will often eat grass simply because it has an upset stomach. There may be an ulcer down there, or even a tumor which would not affect her eating like an ulcer normally would.

Radiograph is the modern term for X-ray (I guess since we have figured out just how they work. The 'radio' comes from 'radiation.) Ulcers don't show up without some 'extra help', meaning something that would stick to an ulcer and make it show up under x-ray, like barium or some other 'contrast medium'.

Chances are right that she still has the same issues, but the vet may see something that wasn't noticeable before. Things appear and disappear in the course of about any disease or other illness. If she were to come down with a diarrhea, this may suggest something like a digestive system virus working it's way through her. In any case, if you can, I recommend a trip back to the vet as asked. Ask if they gave any contrast medium with the radiograph.

I suggest you not feed her any dry food, and maybe a couple cans of some food from the vets, like I/d Diet, as long as she has an upset stomach. She needs fluids as much as food, so work on getting her to drink. If not, she may be going back to the vets for an 'intravenous drink.'
