I would think so. If she is in school and needs the help you are the father and haven't contributed yet. Especially if you are registered with mantinence inforcement. But seriously just contribut if you can its your kid. If you can't give exactily what she is demanding offer some kind of help. You get ore respect as a human for that.

Please do not answer what you "think". That is inappropriate in a technical forum. You need to know. And answers need to conform to the law, not what you think is fair, just or ethical.

Without looking up that apecific state law, if the non custodian parent is liable for support if the child is still in college ( not all states require this) they may file but not for any back support,

There are many questions here. Are you saying that your wife has first filed now? She never filed for support before?

Generally, this probably would not be allowed. But NJ is very strict on support and the value of an education. Based on NJ law and prior court decisions, there is a good possibility that a court would agree to ordering support while your daughter continues in college. (http://www.njlawsite.com/njlawyers/child-support.htm)

I think that she has neglected to file before or did not ask for support as part of the divorce may work against her though. But I do believe a court will at least hear this case.

Now I have to ask how long ago were you divorced and have you paid support voluntarily or otherwise during that time?
