What are my husbands rights according to law?
My husband enjoys judging horse shows and he has been certified as a judge and doing so for the past two decades.
He had a show scheduled for early this spring (current has over 18 shows booked for this season)---out of the blue received an e-mail that he could not be hired because of his character. He contacted the president of this association as well as the person of the association in charge of hiring the judges... they said two people showed up at their general membership meeting and told some pretty outrageous stories about his character (none of which was true). He was told that since the majority of the membership body really didn't know him personally they believed their fellow members and he was unhired as their judge... then he found out these same two people went onto a different horse association and did the same thing! We do not how many associations they have contacted... and we cannot get anyone to tell us exactly what has been said... just it is outrageous and those who know him realize it is made up lies! This has cost him income from two associations and the board members apologized for the situation and one stated they would sue and get it stopped.
We are uncertain what direction to go... he judges enough shows that two smaller associations that these two people show at really are unrelevant to the overall scheme of our life; however, how far will their character assaults go and what exactly are they saying that is so awful! Advice, anyone??

I would try to get some statements in writing from the folks who fired him. You could then use them as proof in a suit for libel , slander or defamation of character.

    Hello p:

This situation sounds like it was DESIGNED by a slander lawyer. I'd hire one tomorrow. Maybe he could STOP further damage from occurring.

So you sue them, for the loss income if what they said at the meeting was untrue.
