Taxes for J1 Trainee from france
    Hello,

I have few questions regarding my tax return.
I arrived in NY with a J1 in August 2006 from france where I wasn t working. My sponsor is a private company based in NYC. I did not pay any medicare nor FUTA.
I would like to know what deduction can I apply on my tax return, like accommodation, board, fly ticket, tax treaty. Can you help?

You have not established a tax home, so your visit to NYC does not constitute a temporary work assignment. For this reason, you cannot deduct your daily lodging or board expenses.

You should be able to deduct the airline ticket as an employee business expense on Form 2016.

As near as I can tell, none of the treaty exemptions apply to you, since your sponsor is a private, for-profit company.
