Am I paying for my neighbor's heating costs?
I live above my landlord in a 2-story flat. My apartment is not insulated and I have found that my heating bill is outrageously high. My landlord and I have separate furnaces and separate meters. However, I've noticed that when my thermostat is turned all the way down, there is still cold air blowing through my vent. Is it possible that my gas meter may be impacted by my landlord's heating usage?

I would appreciate any input on this matter. Thanks in advance for feedback you can give.

If you live above the land lord with know insulation in the flat you should get all of his heat. Heat rises. Cold air in the vents with the unit off makes me think you have duct work that has came apart.

You would think that I'm getting the heat from below but not the case, interestingly. The minute I turn off the heat, I lose all the warmth. The strange thing is that I was away for 1/2 the month and turned my heat down to 55. I've just compared heating costs with my landlord during the same periods (and she's there 24 hours a day, where as I work in addition to being away for 1/2 month) and her bills were lower than mine for both billing cycles. She is going to have someone come and check out the furnace. But OUCH, $250 for only 2 weeks of any usage.
    Thanks for your reply!

We are in a strange (to me) situation. In selling a house, an offer has been made in which we are asked to increase the asking price of the house by 6% which is the closing cost to the buyer.
