Can a hole be drilled in a toilet tank?
I have three kohler toilets that have a motor that flushes when you put the seat cover down. They are 6 years old. And the motors are no good. They work some of the time. The tanks don't have a hole to put a handle . My question is , can I drill holes in them to replace the flushing components with the typical handles?

Hi Khsmith...
I imagine with the right drill bits and TONS of patience it could be done, but I certainly wouldn't want to try it for a customer, anyway!
Why not call Kohler company and talk to them or better yet... get replacement motors?

Thoughts?
Let me know, OK?

Toilets are vitreous china, it would be like trying to drill through a glass pitcher. Yes it could be done by a skilled person with the right tools but I have never seen a successful try, all have failed. Follow Marks advice

The housing (motors) are over three hundred dollars a piece. The toilets were my wife's idea. They a called " peace keepers ". The warranties have ran out. To even replace the toilet seat are over 200.00.

They sell great toilets nowadays in the $125.00 to $200.00 range.
I recommend the TOTO, KOHLER, or AMERICAN STANDARD toilets.

Are those toilet seats coming from the Air Force or other governmental agency? At those prices I'm with Mark. I just installed a 1,28 gpf Kohlor toilet for $200

Those Kohler Peacekeeper Flush toilets were a joke.. I have 4 in my house, and over the past 10 years or so, have replaced the Motor systems numerous times.. Kohler Customer Service has been no help what so ever... and the repalacement motors are $300+ a piece.. They won't even give you a break on the price.. So here I am stuck with these 1-piece $600.00+ water closets, and don't have any other option but to keep paying $300.00 every 2 years for repacement motors x4... Can't even put a conventional tank lever on them because they don't have a hole for it.. Does anyone have a sure-fire method to drill these tanks for a conventional lever? Please get back to me.. have 1 unit now non-functioning..

pgf50, I have the VERY same issue. I "had" to have that toilet and it was great... for a while. We have replaced the POS (piece of... ) motor 4 times. I don't even want to do the math on what we have actually spent on ONE toilet. Kohler has been no help. I checked several - all online plumbing supply stores - to find the motors. For a while, they were completely unavailable because of some part in the motor. Nevertheless, my half-bath toilet doesn't work. Now any guest has to go to my teenage boys' bathroom... there are not enough hours in the day to make sure that room is spotless. The whole situation makes me so angry! My husband mentioned drilling a hole in the top of the lid to add a top-plunge flush system. Wish us luck. Kohler - kiss my @$$!!
