Elections we have to have, but do we have to have them early. Apparently when a government is under pressure for controversial policies the answer is yes. I would have thought Premier Kristina Keneally would have learned about democracy where she was brought up, but apparently the lessons didn't take or perhaps they did. What I do know is this isn't the way we do things around here, you cannot gag debate particularly when you have done a controversial deal on selling the state's assets and its people up the creek once again.

People want to know, what the hell is going on around here?

I thought it was common for your pols to hold elections when it is convenient and advantageous for the pol. To garner political advantage.

So what better time is there than after she got a lot of face time with Oprah ?

Tell us more about this 'electricty sale' that appears to be the source of this conflict .

The state Labor Government is on the nose with resignations of ministers and representatives and many announcing retirement. A government can call an election at any time and elections are due in March but this election is being called to gag debate not because they have lost a majority or see an advantage at the polls. There is no Oprah advantage, that visit was a debacle as far as the state was concerned with distruption of traffic flows, etc. The government has been in power for fifteen years and their policies have bankrupted the state.

The Labor government stole the electricity industry from the people of NSW when they came to office. At that time it was the property of the people run by local government (distribution) and statutory corporations (generation) and they attempted to sell it off with no takers. They have ripped large dividends out of the industry and not reinvested in assets. Electricity prices have risen 70%. They have now sold off the retail and trading arms in a secret deal with two local companies with overseas connections with out going to open tender.

Sounds like the people need to oust them if elections given them the opportunity.

Is there no public back lash against what appears to be 15 years of bad policy ?

Yes Tom there is a backlash, the federal labor government bore the brunt of it in the recent federal elections with large loss of seats in NSW and it is widely expected they will be out on their perverbal. The current premier is the mouthpiece of the faceless men like Arbib. In the past the opposition has been disorganised but are now expected to poll 61-39.
