Smelly sink-dont use boiling water!Bad advice
HI, I just tried a method of getting rid of a smelly bathroom sink by adding 1/2 gal of bleach, letting it sit overnite, and then flushing it with boiling water. To my surprise and total dissapointment, my $500 pedestal sink cracked in half due to the hot water! No one ever mentioned anything about the possibility of cracking the GD sink! If I could ask the experts who give info on this site to pay for my sink, they can contact me at this site, and I'll happily give them my mailing address so I can replace our master bath sink. I can't believe that just happened!
Now not only does my sink smell, it is really a piece of crap! Thanks for your advice. I guess from now on I'll call a real expert. My plumber!

Let me just say if didn't discover a this site & a few of the guys here, I wouldn't have been able to rough-in my new bathroom and save a couple grand.
These guys give excellent advice, and they are not liable for anything that happens when people tackle plumbing projects themselves. There is a risk with doing everything... I expect things won't go exactly as they describe it to me, since all they have to go on is my description of the problem and maybe a mediocre picture or two. They are not physically here helping me so it's not always that easy.
Give these guys a break... they spend hours here giving advice for free.
Now, go get a new sink so the wife doesn't get upset... it was probably time for a new sink anyway.

We are truly sorry that you had a problem with our advice. In our defense, let me state that in all my years in the repair field and in all the hundreds of times that we have given this advice, both here and on other Q&A sites, this is the first complaint we have ever received. Which leads one to wonder, is it our advice that's faulty or your lavatory? Our advice is based on experience and knowledge. The experts here are not paid for their time but are involved from a sincere desire to help those who wish to solve their plumbing problems without the expense of calling in outside help. While I can not apologize for the advice, which was based on years of successful application, I am sincerely sorry for your mishap. Tom aka speedball1

Apologize
Sorry guys,
I guess I flew off the handle earlier this morning when my sink cracked in half. Generally I am in a good disposition, and don't go off like that. I was very bummed out that it happened after such a seemingly easy fix for my bathroom problem, and again I apologize.

Smelly Cold Water
[ 29 Answers ]
We had our kitchen remodeled about 1 yr ago. All plumbing was moved to a different location in the room. In the last few months, the cold water in the sink started to smell and had a bad taste. After you run the faucet for about 5 minutes, the water does not smell, but after you leave it for a...
Smelly sink sprayer
[ 3 Answers ]
When I first start using the sink sprayer, it emits a foul, rotten egg like smell for about the first 10-15 seconds. The house is less than 3 years old. We are the only owners. When I let up off the sprayer, there is no "kickback" like I have experienced with other sprayers. Any ideas?
Thanks,...
