    Hi,

If I understand correctly, the shower arm for the shower head that protrudes the wall broke? I would get a nipple extractor and as you turn counter clockwise it tightens and you will be able to get it off.

If it is not what I think it is, I apologize. Thanks

You are confusing some of the more experienced plumbers and installers here. We think you may mean SHOWER ARM which is the pipe that comes out of the wall and to which you mount your shower head, are we right so far? If so please tell us what you were doing to the SHOWER ARM to get it to break, they do not break on their own. Yes, I do believe shanejohns1970 is referring to shower arm as I stated in my post. I would recommend nipple extractor to pull it out before opening walls.

    Hi all:

I wouldn't usually recommend an EASY OUT TOOL or a NIPPLE EXTRACTOR TOOL for this job if the threads are broken off flush with the fitting behind the wall. Here, the brass shower arm is usually too thin/corroded for these tools to work.

If the threads are broken off so they are flush with the fitting in the wall then shanejohns70 can remove the threaded remains by using a mini hacksaw blade, an AWL, a hammer, a pair of needlenose pliers, and perhaps a small flat screwdriver (see image).

Here, you will use the mini hacksaw blade to score the threads of the broken pipe but not the threads of the fitting. You will score two small cuts into the pipe about 1/4" apart... again... being careful not to cut into the brass threads of the fitting. Then you will take the awl and hammer (be darn careful not to drop that hammer... o.k. ) and start to undermine the first thread of the pipe from the fitting in between the cut marks. Once you get that first thread started the scored cuts should break free as a piece pretty easily and pop up so you can continue to undermine the threads and finally grab and remove the broken pipe. You may need to push in on the rest of the pipe to loosen it. Be careful here NOT to let that piece fall down inside the pipe.

Let us know how you make out, OK?
