    Parents homeless for 3 years
    My parents have been on the council waiting list for 3 years the live from place to place they have found an empty housing association property and are considering squatting they are willing to pay rent what are their rights can they arrange for gas and electric and council tax to be paid by tham as is is still on and how will it effect thir position on the waiting list

    It would help to know WHERE this is... as laws vary greatly. This site does have members from a large number of countries and we can't assume where they actually live.

    It sounds like you're not in the US, so I don't know the laws where you're at...

    My first thought was that your parents were violating somebody's rights by moving into their property un-invited... While that's true, I suppose if I didn't have a home, and I saw a nice unoccupied house, I'd take shelter there...

    Now, it's a backwards situation, but I don't see why your parents can't make something work out... I'm sure the owner can be located at your county tax offices or the equivalent where you live, and maybe, just maybe, they'll be amenabe to receiving some money for a property that was just sitting vacant.

    Do I think it will effect your parents position on the waiting list?? I certainly HOPE not.
