    Loan Payment Through Zakat
    Dear Dr. Zakir,

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

I need to know the resolution of the under mentioned query under the light of Quran & Sunnah. My paternal uncle expired couple of years back & had taken a loan from his brother-in-law ( as per his statement). Now his immediate family (Sons & wife) has refused to pay the loan back. Brother-in-law is also not ready to forgo the loan. Now my father, my uncle's brother, wants to pay off some of his loan through "Zakat". Can he do this or not? And what would be the right and proper way of doing it under the light of Quran & Sunnah? Please reply at the earliest. My email address is >Removed<

    Regards,
    Imran
