Try changing the batteries if the remote worked before you changed batteries there is nothing wrong with the remote - just the batteries. Sometimes batteries can do weird things to remotes if they are the least bit drained - even out of the package.

I hard wired my ceiling fan into the electrical outlet in the ceiling. I can not change the speed. It runs on high. Is there any way to make it run on low without taking it down and rewiring the remote back into it? The remote was not working is why I took it out and hard wired it to the outlet.

I have a Hampton Bay remote control fan, it goes at 1/2 speed in full and medium and does not go at all in slow. The forward/reverse arrow on the remote LCD indicates the opposite direction the fan is moving.
