Our water smells almost like diesel fuel but not all the time
Our hot water heater is part of our oil burner and I think it might be from that. But we get the smell from the cold & hot water so I'm nt sure. We dropped a water sample off yesterday to get tested but that won't be ready until Tuesday. They said that we may need a more detaild test which could cost up to $300.00. By the way, our heating oil tank is above groung so I know that it's not leaking into the ground.

Are you on city water or a pump? Did this start gradually or happen overnight? Is every fixture affected? Can you furnish us with nore details? Back to you, Tom

We have a well pump. It started a couple of weeks ago but not all the time. We've noticed it from all fixtures.

Is there a underground line from the oil tank that supplies the furnace?
Our hot water heater is part of our oil burner
Does this` consist of a furnace coil,(see image) or is it something else? Since a furnace coil's a closed system I don't see how oil could get inj through the coil. If you have a different system tell me about it. Cheers, Tom

I don't know if you got my last answer but I don't think we have a coil as you described. The furnace is a Wiel-McClain and it turns on whenever you run hot water. I appreciate your help in this matter. I'm just trying to figure out if I need to call a Well Pump Service or the Furnace Co.
No all of the lines are above ground.

Can you hold off until the water report comes in? I'm no furnace expert, I live in Fl, But I'll attempt to pull a diagram of your furnace.
Regards, Tom

Yeah sure that's fine, but if you think of anything that might be causing this, please let me know. Regards, Jim

Surer will! My concern now is to isolate the problem.
Is this internal in the house system or do you have a contaminated well? That's why I wanted to wait on the water report. Have a great Sunday, Tom

Hi everyone
I've seen a lot of posts around water smelling of egg etc, but our problem is different.
The cold water in the kitchen (and only the kitchen, not the bathroom) smells of gas - the type of gas used to fuel your stove etc.

I have a 2000 ford f 350 pick up diesel. I have been noticing a stain on my driveway. I put my finger in the stain and is was diesel. It was leaking from the flex plate. I took it off and found nothing but I did notice the valley on top was wet. The truck has 144,760 miles on it.
