    My outlet is not working
I tried to replace my outlet to combo with switch and outlet. I made a big mistake,I connect the opposite. When I put the power on, it turned off. I tried to put it right way, but it was not working. I guess the fuse was damaged. I do not know how to replace the fuse. Does anyone knows how to fix that problem. Other locations is all fine. Only the outlet I replaced in a wrong way is not working now.

First make sure that the power is actually off at the switch and outlet! If it is off, leave it off!

Normally, you connect the black conductor to the brass screw on the receptacle and the white conductor to the silver screw.

In your case, what you should have done is to take the constant hot (Black) and route that conductor to the bottom screw of the switch. Then you take another black conductor and go from the top screw of the switch to the brass screw on the receptacle.

Switches do not use the Neutral (white) conductor unless it is required by the manufacturer.

Are you sure that you do not have a circuit breaker instead of a fuse?

If you do have a breaker, push the handle as far to the right or left as you can. This will reset the breaker and then you can push the handle to the center of the panelboard.

You could also just contact the electrician that the condo association uses and ask him to fix it for you.

Outlet not working [ 4 Answers ]

Our outside outlet that was previously working, decided to stop working the other day (there's not that many Christmas lights plugged in). It has also effected the outlets (not lights) in all 3 bathrooms as well as the sunroom. We have 2 outlets in the kitchen that are GFI--and neither were...

We recently moved into a new home and when we installed our outdoor lights, we noticed that the outlet wasn't receiving any power. We checked the other exterior outlets, and those too were dead. We reset all of the GFCI's that could be affecting it, and that didn't help. Next we replaced the...
