Wiring switch and gfi with one power source in
I need to make one ground fault outlet and one switch to a vainity light using one powersource. The power source comes into the switch box as well as wiring from the gfi box and the wire from the vanity light. I created two pig tails off the power source hot (black wire), one is connnected to the gfi hot and the other pig tail is connected to the hot one the switch that runs the vanity light. All neutrals from the power, vanity light, and gfi are connected together. There is only one gfi outlet and no other outlets are connected to the gfi wire(in other word the gfi has only one set of 3 wires . I wired the gfi to the "line" NOT the load on the outlet(per directions) but the gfi outlet does not have power. If I wire a regular outlet it works fine. The vanity light/switch also works fine. What is the problem with the gfi wiring? I have gone so far as purchasing another gfi thinking the gfi outlet was no good. What am I missing?

You may have to push the reset button, they will not reset without power to line side.
