How to correct a leaking bathtub spout
We have a leaking bathtub spout. My husband has replaced both the handles and they appear to have no leaks however the spout even with the water off has running water coming out of the pipe. We got in behind the wall and it is all dry and no leaks. We have replaced the spout head but that does not seem to make a difference. Can anyone provide a suggestion on what this might be from? We are using tape to secure the spout.

When u say u changed handles,do u mean the spindles where changed. Where the seats checked when changing spindles?

To check seat u have to feel with finger or look to see if there are any nicks in it. If there are, seat needs to be replaced.

You replaced the handles. Did you replace the washers? Sounds like you are not turning off the water all the way. The spout is screwed on or held on with a set screw.

We can't help much without a better description of the valves and the work done. Handles don't do much. There are washer, balls or cartridges inside that close off the water, handle just moves them. Can you post a picture or anything else that will help us?

Replacing leaking bathtub spout [ 1 Answers ]

Have made a couple of attempts to replace a bathtub spout. The current spout leaks so bad that there is very little pressure to the shower. The diverter is leaking through the top of the spout and shooting a stream of water up into the air. The problem, when I remove the current spout (unscrew it)...

I want to replace the bathtub spout with a new one available at hardware store. I tried unscrewing the old spout barehanded and it won't budge. Can I use a wrench (I don't care if the old spout is marred), or is there a danger of breaking the pipe in the wall. I do NOT have access to the...

Hi, I have read the Q/A's on the site, but can't find an answer to this one. First, I have a Delta faucet. It looks like Delta Faucet T13422-SOS on the www.deltafaucet.com website. (There are a few more that look like this, but it has the diverter plug on the spout.) The difference is that...
