    Bathtub spout problems
    Hi there...

We are trying to replace our bathtub set screw spout. After taking off the old one and replacing it with the new, we found that the pipe was too long and therefore leaving too much space between the spout and the tub. After trimming the pipe down and shaving off the rough pieces on the pipe, the spout fit. HOWEVER, there is now water coming out from behind the spout (on the wall) and an irregular water pattern coming out from the spout.

Any help or bits of information would be appreciated! THANKS IN ADVANCE!:)

Sounds like the O ring is damaged, you need to remove the spout, check the O ring for damage or twist, you may need to replace the O ring or the spout it self, when you install it back make sure to use some lubricant on the pipe, good luck.

I agree with John. You must be very careful when slipping new spout onto the pipe. I would suggest you take a file and file its edges so they are not sharp. Proceed as John suggests.

I want to replace the bathtub spout with a new one available at hardware store. I tried unscrewing the old spout barehanded and it won't budge. Can I use a wrench (I don't care if the old spout is marred), or is there a danger of breaking the pipe in the wall. I do NOT have access to the...
