We have a GE Profile hot water tank, approx 6 years old (came with a 9 year warranty). Over the weekend we installed a Delta In2ition shower (handheld shower clips into wallmounted head, replaced two hot/cold handles with a single lever and replaced existing bath spout. After the installation, two people had hot showers, and a dishwasher was run. That was Sunday afternoon. Since then, (it is now Monday afternoon) there has been no hot water, just barely lukewarm. The people living in the home have checked all circuit breakers, water flows from the hot pipe (i.e. kitchen sink, bathroom sink), but it just isn't getting hot. I'd say maybe a thermostat is gone, but it all seems just too coincidental... or maybe not? Appreciate any and all help on this one, as we are living in the U.S. and the home is in Canada - not a quick and easy fix.

This is an ELECTRIC water heater... right? Sounds like a coincidence to me as long as the whole house has no hot water.

You could ask your tenant to remove the top access panel located on the upper front of the tank on the water heater and have them carefully remove the insulation and try to pop in the RED RESET button on the upper thermostat. If they hear a "click" and hot water is restored in a half-hour or so then they may be all set... for now.

For safety's sake have them shut the breaker to the water heater at the panel while in the access panel pressing the reset button.

If this reoccurs then have a qualified plumber pop out and replace both thermostats and check the elements for issues... could be that one of the thermostats is causing one of the elements to fire and overheating the unit... why the upper thermostat might trip.

Give this a shot and let me know what they find... OK?
