    I'm being scammed!
Hello everyone.. I'm not sure if this is the proper forum to put this thread, so if it needs to be moved, fine by me!

I'm being scammed! And I don't know what to do. I got an extended warranty on my car in March.. My trannie went out about two years ago and cost me $1800. I saw the commercial.. called up and everything seemed legit.. My Policy was suppose to cover engine, trannie, A/C, axels and some other stuff.. In the first part of July, I take my car in to have the A/C fixed since its covered, right? WRONG! I was told by my mechanic when he called that my policy doesn't cover the A/C.. Which really sucks, because its going to cost $800 to fix it.

But, I call the company up.. I try and see if I can get it fixed anyway since I was sold the policy with my A/C covered. The rep told me that even if they pulled the tapes with the other guy selling me the coverage, that they can't do it anyway... I didn't get any type of compensation or insentive to stay. I requested to cancel my policy and literally got into a pissing contest with the rep. He continues to challenge me and argue. I'm not being nice.. I'm not being cooperative.. I continued to say I want to cancel the policy right now and he doesn't budge.

I work at a call center.. I know how this works.. I tried all my tactics but this dude stayed strong. I had to go to work, so I had to let him go... This was about 4 days ago.

This policy has roadside assistance with it.. So, today I got a flat tire.. I'm in the middle of no where and my entire family was with me.. so no one to call. I call up the warranty people because I'm PAYING for this policy still.. The SAME guy answers my call.. I tell him I need roadside assistance.. He asks me what's wrong.. I tell him I have a flat in the middle of no where and the lugnuts are stripped... He tells me that since the emergency has nothing to do with the policy that he can't help me. So another half hour long pissing contest. I continue to tell the guy I want to cancel. I asked for his manager.. I threantened the Lawyer and BBB.. It fell on deaf hears.. He kept dodging me for speaking with his Manager.. he tells me that if I want to cancel I need to write a letter.. I signed up for this policy over the phone, but now all of a sudden I cannot cancel over the phone. I'm not even requesting a refund for all the months I paid.. Or even demanding my AC to be fixed.. I just want to cancel.. This guy won't cancel me.. He continues to give me scenarios if my engine blows.. That he is concerned about my high milage.. That he is trying to save me the heartache of buying a new car and going into debt...

Looked up this company.. Stoprepairbills.com.. at BBB.. They are getting a score from them of a whopping F... which is why they are not concerned about BBB.. They also have lawyers after them.. So my limp attacks didn't phase this company one bit.

They won't let me cancel my policy. I've been reading online.. and many issues that are the same as mine are popping up everywhere! Dumb me didn't do my research before purchasing this policy.

I'm pulling all of my money out of my acct so the pmt will not go through.. It's a prepaid card, so no returned payment fees... I don't want this to go against me in anyway.I need this cancelled immediately..

My question.. What legal leverage do I have? If anything? Or even advise! Please help me!! :(

Is it an insurance policy or similar?

If it's a month by month insurance type deal, I'd say don't pay, they'll cancel you. ;)

I'm not a legal expert though and I wouldn't want you to get into trouble by following my advice.

Another course to try would be to send a registered letter canceling your policy. Keep a copy of the letter and request that you receive a copy where they signed for it. That way you can say that you followed his instructions, you'll have a date that you sent the letter and a date that it was received. If they don't cancel it, you have some evidence that you tried.

Most after market service contracts are worth very little, most have clauses that allow them not to pay.

You will need to read exactly what it says, not what some guy told you.

If they are not paying covered items, sue them, ( stop threatening, they hear that all the time, either do it or don't waste your time)

    If you find you have been cheated and the policy allows you to cancel ( not all do) then write them << again stop calling it has no value on things like this}}

And do what it says you can do within the contract.

I am willing to follow their rules by writing a letter for cancellation.. Except I can't get the mailing address out of them. Plus, I'd rather fax it then mail it.

I'm not paying them.. I'm stopping payment. So the policy will cancel due to that. Except they're going to send me my "final" bill more then likely asking for the remaining amount left for the entire policy.

My last attempt at cancelling over the phone, or at least retrieve the info I need the guy wanted to go over my policy because he claims "I dont understand my policy"... Its getting irritating..

I'm done calling them until I have some fighting power. I'm going to report them to the BBB even though they have an F rating... I'm going to seek consultation from a lawyer on what I should do.

I laugh at this ridiculous mess I'm in.. I work at a call center and speak with customers all the time.. Sprint isn't known for good customer service.. even though I try my best.. But this place.. HORRIBLE customer service!

    Thanks guys

In this case, I would agree to stopping payment and let them try to sue you. If they do, you go into court and tell the court that you tried to get service under this policy and they seem to claim everything isn't covered.

You also need to read the policy VERY carefully. You should have done this before committing to anything. There are legitimate companies providing extended warranties for cars, but there are a lot of scammers in that biz too.

I do admit that I should have read the policy prior to making any type of claim.. But I was under the impression that the AC was covered.

Right now, that's the least of my worries. They thing that bugs me the most is they won't let me cancel. Ive tried many times and I continue to get the run around. They want to go over the policy with me, they don't want me to have to pay high car repairs.. and the list goes on. Its just ridiculous that they won't let me cancel.. and its not a case of I can't cancel until the policy is up, they are simply refusing to give me the proper information to cancel my policy. I've also been treated badly, spoke to like I'm dumb... This entire company is just a huge scam.

I agree. And the only answer to this is to stop paying them. I seriously doubt if they will pursue you.

I know this sound simple, but I worked for a call centre for a GOOD long time, and threatening the BBB usually did the trick. Also have you spoke to a supervisor? I was a Team Leader at the call centre I worked for, and if the agents couldn't resolve the issue, it went to a supervisor, and if the supe could not resolve it went to the TL. If they ask why you want to speak with one, you could always say "I have a right to speak with a supervisor, and die to call centre policy, you can not refuse my request. I have been treated poorly, and I will not accept this". I know it sounds stupid, but there is actually a call centre etiquette book, that has this statement verbatim.

LoL.. I work at a call center right now.. And I have tried every trick in the book. I wanted to speak with a Manager.. I was denied and continued to be denied until I ended the call. I was told first that his manager wasn't available, second that his manager is on break and third that his manager is on the call right now.. Then, finally I was told that it would be a long wait to speak with his manager which I said I wouldn't mind.

I threatened the BBB.. Didn't phase them one bit. Working at a Call Center, threatening the BBB usually triggers the transfer button to a manager, sup. Or some other type of higher authority. But it didn't.. Instead, the guy said he wanted to explain to me how the BBB works and that the policy holder company is rated high.. which I don't believe for one bit.

I threatened a lawyer.. Didn't phase them one bit. Instead they came back with, "Well, you can spend money on a lawyer, which I dont think is necessary, but we're just wanting to save you money on car repairs."

I already spoke with a Team Lead for the compay who wanted to go over my policy with me because he felt that I didn't understand what my policy covered. I told him I didn't want to go over the policy and that I didn't too much care what it covered or didn't cover because I just simply want to cancel. I told him I was a Team Lead at my center as well and told him that when we get customers in who were lied to about the product they purchased, that we were to fix the problem and some how compensate the misinformaton... He didn't really say anything back.. ha ha..

I'm just stopping payment.. I'm not even going to call and speak with anyone anymore. Its really a waste of time and highly frustrating.

But yea... I tried all the call center threats. Did no good. Lol Thanks though:)

Do sent a registered letter, that will back up that you canceled the policy. That way you have some proof that you didn't just stop payment, but actually canceled.

A letter you pay to get get signed by the receiver.
So basically a courier company delivers it, and makes them sign it in order to receive it.

    Not expensive...
