    Vapor lock problems with 2005 Ford Escape

    . Replace the platinum spark plugs with the same Motorcraft plugs that came in the vehicle, if they have not been changed in the last 40,000 miles.

    . Check for codes.

    . Check/replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor.

    . Replace the fuel filter, if it has not been changed in the last 30,000 miles.

    . Clean/replace the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV), clean throttle plate and throttle body, and install a new air filter. Check out Valvoline's Carb & Throttle Body Cleaner, which is safe for Ford's teflon coated throttle bodies.
