Why do I have no hot water in a bathroom?
I put drain cleaner in 2 sinks in the bathroom. Now, it doesn't have hot water coming in any of the faucets in that bathroom. Other faucets that are connected to this same hot water heater do have hot water. Did I do something by cleaning the drains?

    Hi Erin...

Hot water or hot and cold water to the faucets? Let me know...

AT first I thought it was impossible for anything done to a drain to screw up a faucet or faucets, but if the fumes were corrosive enough it could be possible for the AERATORS (see image) to break down a bit and could clog up and present as no or limited water... maybe?

I'd remove the aerators (spins out clockwise), clean them and run water to see if water flows well WITHOUT the aerators in place. If water runs good when the aerators are removed you can try to reinstall the aeartors and see how all works. If the faucets work poorly after you cleaned theaearators you may need to purchase replacement aeartors.

Let me know what you think...

All faucets have water. Just no hot water. And there is no hot water in the shower of that bath either.

    OK.. need more info. Here...

Is this a water temperature issue, i.e. water is cold coming out the hot faucets, or is this a lack of hot water entirely, i.e. no water coming from hot water faucets? Let me know...

Also, is your shower a single handle shower?

Yes, it is a water temperature issue. The water is somewhat warm but never gets hot at any faucet in this bathroom. Yes, it is a single handle shower. It is just odd because the bathroom down the hall that is connected to the same hot water heater has hot water.

    OK...

Most likely the shower mixing valve cartridge has failed and is allowing water from hot and cold water to mix without any control. It could also be a mixing valve at the sink faucet(s) if they are also single handle.

Easy to determine if the sink valve is a single lever handled faucet... just shut the shutoffs off under the sink and then check to see if the temperature is improved at the shower.

The shower is harder to check unless you have access to shutoffs at the shower... then you would just shut these and see if the water temp. is better at the sink.

Try this out or let me know more about your setup.

Let me know what you discover...
