Help me my dog is peeing in my house and I don't know why?
So I have a 2 1/2 year old male (fixed) Basset Hound and for the last three days he has been peeing in our house. He is an indoor dog. Nothing has changed recently. He is not crated during the day anymore. He doesn't do it while we are gone. Like last night I went in to put my girls to bed (one is 5 years other is almost 6 months) and he came in there and just started peeing. Other times it is the same. We will be in the room while he is doing it. What should I do? We really don't want to get rid of him. Someone please help me.

This is a question about dogs, not family, and so I've asked that it be moved.

Has he been checked by a Vet to make sure there are no physical problems?

It very well might be territorial urinating - he is marking "his" territory and he thinks he is, therefore, protecting your children.

When you get him checked, I would ask your Vet.

I agree with Judy. Get him to the vet for a check up.

You first need to rule out a urinary tract infection or any other physical ailment. If he checks out fine, then the problem most likely has to do with changes within the household. A new baby would be a guess. Until you have been given a clean bill of health from your vet, I do not want to make assumptions. So, if the vet says everything is fine, post back and let us know what changes have occurred in your household recently.

Almost always an infection of bladder, kidney or urinary tract infection will cause a dog to urinate more frequently and the dog can lose some control. Since he is nuetered, I doubt he is marking territory, however, with a new baby in the house you never know. Make sure he doesn't have an infection before worrying about behavioral problems.

I have always had neutered dogs and several have done the "territorial urinating" "thing."
