    Re-caulking lead seal
I have a cast iron closet flange with a lead seal on a concrete floor. During remodeling and toilet replacement, I found the flange to be a bit loose and secured it to the floor with screws and some leveler (used for unrelated floor issues). There is a bit of a ragged edge on the lead seal where it was loosened, and although I will use a wax seal with a funnel, I would like to re-caulk the lead seal after reading some of Mr. speedball1's posts on other issues. What material is used for the caulk? Is it lead or something out of a tube? How do I do it? Tools? -Thanks in advance.

The only thing you will need to recaulk a lead joint is the tools to do it with. You do not need to add anything. The tools needed are a inside and a outside caulking tool and of course a hammer. Caulk the inside of the joint first and then the outside. Good luck, Tom

OK. So, essentially I would just be reworking the existing seal rather than remelting the lead or adding anything else. Sounds too easy. Thanks, Tom.

I read in another post that you can caulk with lead wool. Does this mean that after packing oakum in a joint, you then pack lead wool into that same joint (without any application of heat) and you are done?
