I have been in a long-distance relationship for two years, and my boyfriend (well currently my ex for a month now) invited me to his sister's wedding. I booked a flight to be able to attend, bought a dress, shoes, etc. Also booked a hotel for our 2 year anniversary, on his request. I have always paid for trips to see him. I never minded. He also asked me to get on the pill for him. All these expenses total up to $1400, and he knew the hotel/flight were nonrefundable. I have emails and text messages from him saying to book them because his "real opinion" was he was equally as excited to see me as I was to see him. He asked me to get on the birth control pill for him as well, and I did. The night of my doctor's appointment, he breaks up with me on the phone, and hangs up without explanation. He also refuses to talk to me. I ask him to send stuff I have left at his house back to me. He has not. I plan to fly there since my flight is nonrefundable and retrieve my belongings, and if he does not cooperate, I want to sue him for the arising expenses from the "canceled" trip... but he says since he did not ever agree to reimburse me, I cannot sue him for it. This is true, but I booked the entire visit on good faith on being able to see him and he knowingly canceled the trip after I did so...

He also does not want to return a laptop I lent him (my dad bought it for me adter high school graduation, and it is under my name) to use since his computer has been broken and he has no money to fix it. He bought me a laptop two years ago as a gift, and had it shipped to me and registered under my name. He wants to exchange laptops. But aren't technically both mine now? My flight is tomorrow, and I just wanted some public advice... last minute. Haha.

I don't know why this is posted in the crime section. It's a legal question.

Some of this is NOT reimbursable to you - for example, birth control pills. Unless he was holding a gun to your head this is a medical decision you made.

As far as the rest of the expenses and the laptop - you would take him to Court and ask for the return of any belongings as well as the laptop and any money which was a LOAN. Plane tickets which were not a LOAN cannot now be changed into a LOAN.

Problem is Small Claims Court has "authority" where HE lives so you would have to go there and file (and it sounds like you are going anyway) and then fly back for Court.
