Have you ever encountered a dark, smokey, shape shifting entity that terrified you?
Im doing research on an experience I had well over a decade ago that terrified me and left a scar forever in my mind. People all over the world who are from all walks of life have had very similar experiences for hundreds of years. All were equally terrified. The experience was specific, I can say no more without giving too much away and compromising my research but I'd like to compare stories with people who genuinely know what I mean when I describe the entity as I've done above!

For those of dem that don't know anyz betters, allow me to explain! Im looking for similar stories, thoughts, and/or questions that are not corrupt, either by means of exageration or the simple passage of time, or even by the party sharing the experience! If 'tickles' must know, in my research I found that the entity is considered by some to be a demon visitor and by others to be a state of mind known as sleep paralysis or sea hag! Lucky recipients are almost always terrified! I believe that it was entirely different than either of those things. I can't find any info about any of the victims(?) ever having mentioned communicating with the entity. It's not like we sat there shooting the sat about politics and world peace! I was under the misguided belief that the encounter I had was horrible and mean, much like you tickles!!

So if your belief was misguided ,and you refer to others who claim to have seen it as "lucky", does that mean you have decided it was a good thing?
    And if so... why?

Having an experience similar to the OPs description is not necessarily 'lucky'; it is absolutely frozen-in-time terrifying. I have had at least two over the years. One actually had me believing I saw 'something' and to this day I have never forgotten and sincerely hope it never happens again. For any one with a bad heart, the experience would have been lethal. Yes, it was a form of sleep paralysis, that's why I said 'frozen in time'. I have never heard it referred to 'sea hag' though. As for communicating, well, if I had tried I think I would not be here today!

Don't get me wrong, I am a toughie. Anyone who can read H.P. Lovecraft over and over again has to have at least a good kick at the can.

The Dunwhich Horror and The Color Out of Space are two of my favorite books.

I know two people who have had similar experiences and I saw the effect. It is sobering to say the least. That is why I am curious as to why the OP refers to the "misguided impression the encounter was horrible and mean" and refers to the "victims as lucky".
From what I know , it is horrible, and there is nothing "lucky" about it.

Wow, someone else who has actually read Lovecraft ! If I could pronounce some of his stories, I would certainly say, one or two were my favourites as well, but yes, the Dunwich Horror was a really great read.

The call of Cluthlu (can't pronounce or spell it) and Yog Slothoth were short stories of his that many other authors took up and used as well as The Necronomicon. Did you see the movie version of The Dunwich Horror? It was a decent rendition.

Yes, I did see that movie. Forget who was in it except for Sandra Dee. The lead actor is dead now I think. His name will come to me shortly.

Only on television. That "LOST" smoke monster ascared me.

However, I used to experience sleep paralysis quite often but I didn't see anything as you have described above. That isn't to say the experiences weren't scary when they occurred. They were pretty freaking strange.

Well, he ain't no spring chicken as they say, but he is only 74. Guess it depends on what side of the age fence you are sitting when you say geriatric.;)

I can understand your thinking he is older. He was a child actor. I remember "The Boy with the Green Hair." Real stinker of a movie. BUT, he was excellent in "Compulsion."

    Uh oh. Hijacked thread.

Smoky black monster, er, um, Hmm. no. freaky stuff while in sleep paralysis, yup.

Okay, okay, allow me to recant the last statement about people having the experience and being lucky! The experience is not one that you'll ever feel lucky to of had, it was a poor attempt to banter. Forgive? Or don't? Anyway, because the research is only important to myself and has been purely educational on several levels already, by your answers alone, I'll tell you - I was visiting my grandma in so. Utah when it happened to me. My first thought was that I was dreaming because Id been asleep and I rolled form my side to my back and as I shut my eyes I noticed that it was 3:38am. The guy next door to my grandma's place was probably in his shed playing with his ham radio because I could hear the crackle from it and I thought I'd maybe seen reflection of light on my walls from his shed. The crickets were chirping in a 'mad loud' way that mid summer evening and it was hot but as I lay there contemplating what could have woke me I felt a change in air temp that happened within seconds and the crickets silenced suddenly, all the while the radio still crackled? I tried to move and couldn't and realize I was experiencing a sort of paralysis, breathing and blinking seemed impossible and I was sure I was going to suffocate. Something came out of the shadows towards me and I seen something that defined for me, what it meant to be truly terrified. I don't know if the visitor(s) that others have encountered are products of our over active imaginations or if they are from another world, plane or realm? But I do know it was evil! It came above me and in my mind I thought argh! DEMON RAPE!! But that did not happen! Instead it seemed to scan me. Now, I know it sounds crazy but bare with me ? Then it's words came into my head, it said things to me about how stupid we were as a race and how pathetic I was because I was afraid and it claimed to be smarter than any of us proving it with the fact it, in mere seconds could communicate w/me in my own language and knew everything about me and about my fellow man, yet we knew nothing of it and I couldn't communicate with it. It seemed to hiss angrily when it spoke(?), while laughing too, even though it had no mouth that I could see? I attempted to struggle, to move or just breath and it laughed harder in a wicked, menacing way. Then it gathered its self, returned to the sid of my bed, recomposed itself and exited my room in the same manner it entered, which was in a dark rolling, controlled, 'smoke' like state, hovering approx 15" to 20" above the ground and disappearing into the shadows of my hall. I had tried to move all the while and finally as it left the room I was able to! It was weird though, like I'd been launched by a huge people slingshot back into my bedroom but then id of had to of been gone and I was there the whole time? The other thing that made me confused about my ability to suddenly move again was because I thought I'd had my palms and the bottom of my feet on the wall for a fraction of a second at the same time, which wouldn't be possible. It was kind of like the world had flipped on its side or like I was in a fun house room where chairs are nailed to the ceiling? The crickets started up where they'd left off and air filled my lungs again. I screamed like a lunatic and my grandma came running in to calm me. I didn't go back to sleep that night, I didn't sleep there again and even in my own apt. I wouldn't sleep with the lights off. I wanted my Grammy to move for her own safety but she laughed and gave me a hard time about it. Friends and family thought and said I was a nut case and that it had been a dream. A dream? I'd swear it was as real as I am! Because I can't say for certain but felt it was so real my rational side says I don't know? My idiot self says I do know though so I'm looking for answers still? Thanks and find peace...

I am not saying that phenomena don't happen. I have experienced enough to be convinced they do.

But always search for rational and natural causes first. Check here.

I think talking to a professional would be of great help also. You should give it some consideration.

The perspective of an unbiased person who knows about the cause and effect can help you sort out what happened.
