    Swollen Pup Tail
    I always dock my mini pincher pups tails. I just did my recent litter the other day and now the tails are are swollen, what does that mean? Please help

    How did you dock them, details please? Cutting or banding, what did you cauterise them with etc.

    It could be that it was done incorrectly, if not cauterised properly blood can pool, or there could be nerve damage, or on the wrong angle, too close to bone etc etc... there are many things that can go wrong.

    You really should get these pups to the vet to be checked out, and never, ever dock yourself from home, only ever get a qualified vet to do so.

    Could be an infection, maybe the area or your instruments were not sterilized. Or the mom or pups licked at the area afterward. If it was just one tail, maybe leaking spinal fluid but that's unlikely to be the case with all the pups at once.

    Sometimes the mom can pester the docked ends to the point of them becoming swollen. Is this her first litter?

    If your concerned about it, you should be contacting your vet. If the pups need to be put on antibiotics, theyd be the ones to give it to you.
