    3 year old constipation
My 3 year old son had been constipated for a while now. He has been going through a "picky" eater spell. Although he still loves to eat fruit of all kinds. His BM's are about 2-3 times a day, but it looks like small raisin like balls. He drink plenty of fluid throughout the day and I haven even given him fiber gummies. I have also given him a few prunes a day for a week and no positive results. Any suggestions on what I can do next?

If you’re sure he’s drinking plenty of water and ingesting plenty of fiber, you might try one of these, after checking with your pediatrician.

    * Make sure he’s eating a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

    * Try giving him 2 tsp. of mineral oil 2X a day IF he can swallow well.. My grandson’s pediatrician suggested this and it kept him moving great. My grandson even loved the taste of it. Mineral oil coats the stool and helps it slide easily through the intestines.

    * Consider eliminating milk from your child's diet. On occasion, a child can become constipated due to a cow's milk allergy or sensitivity. However, because cow's milk is an excellent source of protein and calcium, which are both essential for growth, you should not eliminate it from the diet without first consulting your doctor.

I would have thought if your child is going 2-3 times a day then that's not abnormal, what could be abnormal is the amount.

If you're really worried do you go to a baby/childrens clinic? Ask them they'll know more and be able to advise you.

Or you could go to your doctor.
