How do I fix musty smell from toilet?
I remodeled and moved the toilet about 3 feet, from one side of the wall to the other side, where there was a shower previously. Plumber that consulted with me considered whether the new location would vent properly and quickly decided it would. I have to admit, I put the toilet in the new location myself and used the old, existing wax seal because it appeared to be in excellent shape. I'm guessing that was a big no-no, but there's been no evidence of leakage and the toilet seated well. Its an upstairs location, no water stains down below. Is it possible that the odor could be coming through the wax seal (even though I have seen no evidence of leakage)? If I replace the wax seal and the odor persists, can I buy a special toilet (like with a flap that prevents the gas odor from going up through the water in the lavatory, if that's the problem). Bottom line is want to avoid having to run a new vent closer to the toilet. Surely that's not the problem!

Never ever reuse a wax seal, they cost all of $3 and never are reuseable. Replace it and take your time, not special toilet or vent is needed

While waiting for a response, I decided I had to replace the wax seal. I bought one with 40% more wax, just to try and ensure a good seal. The smell is virtually gone, maybe not 100%. But any odor now is not very noticeable. Thank you for your respo
