    Caught car hopping
I was busted for driving my friends to do car hopping and caught and some of the property was returned but I did get in trouble with police only 1 time just before for running out on restaurant tab but no charges where laid and the restaurant thing was in a diff jurisdiction then the car hopping and is considered theft under $5000 and I have not committed any crime any time other than this my whole life but the police arrested me and told me I couldent leave holding without signing forms and they pressured me to give verbal statement after I asked to have lawyer present as well they never told me I had the right to remain silent and a judge was not present to release me from holding after I was arrested so I was wondering what should I do

It's not a good idea to piggy back your question on someone else's thread. So I've moved your question to it's own thread.

First, Theft under $5000 is a Canadian term and I don't believe Canada has a requirement like the US Miranda rule. Whenever asking a question of law you really need to give a general area because laws vary.

Second, it doesn't matter if they read you your rights, but any statement you signed will not be usuable in court if they didn't.

Third, what you should do is get an attorney, NOW!

Sounds like you have a stolen car charge here and the additional car hopping charge. Definitely get an attorney to help you as this is a felony (stolen car).

Forgive my ignorance but the only definition of car hopping I know is what waitresses do in drive in restaurants. So what is car hopping from a criminal point of view?

I think it's a new slang term for breaking into unlocked cars and stealing everything you can. I'd never heard of it at all. I couldn't find it in any real dictionaries, but urban dictionary had some colorful definitions.

Yes, and that would not be the "charge" it would be here in GA, entering auto, or theft or both.

And of course to be frank, the poster does not seem to upset except he got caught.

But you need an attorney now

If you want advice, you will have to give proper terms in law that people in legal background will understand.

Most of our experts are not street gang members keeping up with slang. So if you broke into a car, what are the exact charges against you,

Your posts are almost unreadable. If you want advice, try writing complete sentences with punctuation and using real words. I posted what I think car hopping means because someone asked. If you don't want people sitting here trying to decipher what your post means you should make it clearer yourself.

No one was correcting your slang, we were trying to find out what it is you were talking about. If you want advice, then you have to ask for it in a way that people can understand the problem so we can give the best advice we can.
