ceiling fan and or light turns on by itself
I put a new remote control on my ceiling fan to control light and fan. The DIP switches are set the same on both transmitter and receiver. The light goes on occasionally at random and also separately the fan begins to turn slowly. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance for any help

I would try a new set of codes, if left on default, a neighbors remote may control yours.

So I take it you mean move 1 of the four DIP switches in an opposite direction on the transmitter and receiver?

Yes, anything different than default, and they MUST match on both, good luck.
Try not to use all on, all off or alternating. They are commonly used.

I tried different settings but nothing would work. Then I tried changing to receiver settings but left the transmitter settings in their original position... the remote controlled the fan and the light!! This made no sense too me as the settings are now different from each other in the transmitter and receiver. But, at 5:30 am the light came on on its own so I still have a problem. Could the remote control unot be defective and should I return it to Home depot? It is a Hunter remote

Power should go in on the black and wjite of the receiver, then the output connects to the fans wiring, neutrals do not tie together on the receiver, 1 is in, and 1 is out. If it is still acting up, then exchange it. Home Depot is very good on returns.

The fan had a remote. I removed the old one and replaced it with a hunter remote. Right now the DIP switches are NOT set alike in the transmitter and receiver and it works,. I don't understand this. Also no matter what I do the light and/or fan will turn on by itself. I also noticed that when I move the 4 DIP switches from their original positions on the transmittet, the remote will not work

Yes. I am able to turn the fan light on and off with the chain and also the fan itself with the other chain.

I ended up wiring the fan straight to the light switch by passing the remote which I will return to home depot. Only problem now is the pull cord for the fan is not long enough and so I will buy a chain extension. Thank you everyone for your help. It is much appreciated

Glad you got it working. I advise leaving it without a remote. As you can see, they are a major hassle.
