Im kind of freaked out about going to middle school and was trying to get advice on how to ask a girl out because i thought i might be seen better going out(and for the sake of asking a girl out.) I am scared to be seen as an idiot or a nerd and want to be popular. What should i do? I have friends but am worried about the 2 other elementry school 5th grades. And im just kind of freaked out about middle school altogether.
Hi again, Help_please!
Concerned about being popular? Being popular isn't all about who you hang around with. Besides that, why do the things that most of the crowd thinks will be popular? Why not be different in some way? Perhaps even outstanding?
What are some of the individual activities that you're presently good at and/or in which you have a high degree of interest in, please?
Thanks!

Help,
You are going into an entirely new world, leaving your elementary world to enter middle school... It is scary and you have every right to be nervous... but...
Believe it or not, everyone else in your class and the other 2 schools that you will merge with are going through the same thing!
Everyone tries to hide it, some better than others, boys and girls...
As far as being popular goes... you have friends... hang on to those friendships, the biggest mistakes some kids make is throwing away good friends trying to become more popular and they end up without any friends...
Being popular is about being real... being genuine... being true to yourself... think about the kids you know, some like baseball some like video games some like skateboards... or some combination of all of them. In your friends don't you like them because they are real and honest about who they are?
Now, as for the girl...
Girls are just as nervous as boys are... everyone has told you, talk to her... thats great advice... be yourself, figure out what she likes and find something you both like that you can connect over... that is the best way to get to know someone girl boy or whatever...
Going out with a popular girl, you will find, is a double edged sword! It may make you "popular" but sometimes those kids who you think are your friends are jealous of you going out with the popular girl for a variety of reasons... so just be careful...
Best of luck in middle!

Thanks for the advice! I ran a 10K this morning and thought about what all of you said, it really made sense. But I have another question semirelated (I learned not to make new threads.) with all this "popular" junk I'm kind of having problems in elementry school. (or I did) Its just that some girl likes me and she's pissed off at the girl I like. So what to I do? Say "sorry, i dont like you, see you tomorrow." And I'm not even supposed to know she likes me, my friend accidentally broke the secret. So?

Well, you're not an idiot. You're a human with needs just like everyone else. You also, like everyone else, need to learn a lot of things. A good part of that learning needs to happen slowly...
I hope that you might answer the last question that I asked you in post #21.
Thanks!

Hi, new_dude!
Unfortunately, I'm not the Moderator for this particular forum topic area.
Okay, so you've got a new username. That's great! Your new one would appear to be one that shows you have a new beginning. But, as an admonition, I would suggest that you please tread carefully around here.
What do I enjoy? Please read my profile...
Thanks!

I can't delete it.
When I was your age, that was when I first started to get really heavily involved in music type of activities, both in an individual as well as a group basis. It's from those roots that I eventually developed what I am now in the Performing Arts in general.
I was also involved with sports to and extent. Boxing, football, baseball...
But, eventually, I had to choose either sports or music because of injuring myself in sports to an extent that made it difficult for me to do music things then.
If I had had you as a student in school when I was teaching, you would know what I meant in post #21.
You can learn a lot from this site. But, a good part of that learning will also involve a lot of sharing.

I'm sorry that I didn't respond to you right away here, I was busy being popular by being able to do work for someone for which I began training to do when I was about your age.
Do you know what a "troll" is?
Thanks!

Well I know from experience that its really hard to date someone in the very beginning of the school year because no one really is settled into their schedule and they need time to settle into the school year. Plus you don't know if you will end up liking someone else that is new to your school or end up finding out that she is not as nice as you thought she was. Just wait awhile and see if she is interested and see if her personality has changed. Become her friend first.

Just ask her out to watch a movie or to start real small, ask her if she wants to watch a sports game at the park. That way you can easily find out what she likes or doesn't like. Also start up a conversation about how she is doing and you will then know if you should or shouldn't continue dating her. You wouldn't have to even think of it as a date.

You are too young to date. Stop letting your hormones or testosterone rule your thoughts. You are going into middle school which is a whole different world than elementary school.
First of all you need to know there is no touching policy with girls. They have cameras in the school. The teachers expect a lot more of you because your older. Forget the girls and think about studying.
