My HOA is telling people who are reporting them. For example a crime was committed and of course the cops did nothing. However it was deemed necessary to let the HOA know, well when they sent a letter to the home owner they informed them who reported it. I feel like privacy is being invaded. Is this legal?

I'm confused - if it's an unfair accusation the HOA is WAY out of line. The fact that the Police took no action may mean it's an unfair accusation at this point.

Why is letting the homeowner know who reported the crime to the Police a problem? Or am I missing something?

I don't see anything here that isn't public knowledge.

Just in general if a home owner tells the hoa something happened the HOA should not be allowed to go and say who told them. We have someone who never puts their dog on a leash. So several of us reported that to the HOA and the HOA turned around and told the dog owner who reported it.

Then write and report them without giving your names. They are allowed to give out names of who is reporting things if they wish.
If you don't like the way the HOA is ran, get involved and get on the board or get the rules changed

I'm an investigator - I am always surprised and baffled by people who make complaints and then either won't give their names or don't want their names disclosed.

It's not like this is a murder and someone is going to threaten to kill the witnesses.

Someone's dog is off leash and I find that offensive, I tell the dog owner and then if that doesn't work, then I tell the HOA. I don't request that I be anonymous and I'm not unfair when I report "something."

The US Constitution gives everyone the right to face their accusers. Granted that's in a court of law, but it would appear the HOA is satisfying the Constitution.

Like Judy, I believe if you have a valid complaint, there is no reason to make it anonymously.
