    Bearing squeals 96 corolla compressor
96 corolla AC makes noise when belt turns, without clutch engagement.
When button is pushed, nothing engages from ac clutch.
    Perhaps bearing is bad.
Would it ba waste of time to det used, if no guarantee from wreck yard.

    Thanks

Sounds like the clutch assembly, which includes the rotor pulley (bearing), needs replacing. Pulley bearings tend to go around 100,000 miles.

    Thanks TxGreaseMonkey

I'm debating whether I should replace the entire unit, as the car has 126K as trying to repair old parts can waste time and money.

I agree. My experience has been that it's best to replace the compressor and clutch every 100,000 miles.

My 95 Corolla has an AC compressor pulley that has locked up & thrown the belt. Can't turn the pulley by hand at all & the clutch does not respond when jumped to the battery. No leaks in the system & the engine speed controls & button light suggest that the controller doesn't know there's a...
