Briggs and stratton runs too fast
I have a 4.5 hp briggs and stratton push mower. I am fixing it up as it wasn't working when I got it. I was able to start it and now it's running way too fast. I don't know where the governor is. The mower is about 6 years old. It's a BOLEN from Lowe's.
Any directions or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

The governor is basically a flapper that rides next to the flywheel. It's moved by air.

It's not likely that part, but can be.

Look at the carb linkage. A part of it should head under the blower housing.

What is probably wrong though is the gizmo on top of the carb that's activated by the linkage is stuck. Spray some carb cleaner on it. It should be very free to move.
