Can I sue my previous employer for slander?
Hi. I worked at pizza hut for 3 years. 2 of those years I was a shift manager. They hired a female as a server. As soon as she was hired, all kinds of things happened. I was accused of drinking in the store while on the clock and being drunk assisting a customer.we were too busy that night to even breathe. I have been accused of calling my employees names such as an idiot, a retard, other names along those lines. And there is the final one. I was accused of calling a new shift manager a "n****r" lover, and the new general manager a "n****r". I don't use that word. Never have, never will. I lost my job because of it. They did an investigation on me, and once they asked me questions, they kept asking me why would people call them and tell them I'm saying this stuff if I've never said it? And also saying that I must have said it if people are calling them telling them I did. The next day they fired me. I've had to be put on medications because of the way they have messed with my emotions. Can I sue them for slander, harassment and pain and suffering? Someone help me. This has been an ongoing thing for 2 years

Let me see, they have several witnesses, a shift manager, the general manager and another employee racial names.

So what witness do you have to prove it did not happen. To sue them they have to prove it happened and to be honest several different witnesses all saying the same thing makes a bad case against you.

Next so you got fired, go get another one, and after two years you get over it and go on. Your time is better used getting counseling than legal help

Got to agree with FrChuck. Everyone at Pizza Hut is against you?

I think there are other issues here.

But if you think you have grounds to sue by all means contact an Attorney, take your proof to the office with you, take proof of monetary damages (and you can only sue for money), see what the Attorney says.

If it was just one person, perhaps a new boss, but several different people, I will agree, it sounds like there is a lot more to this story, would you care to share

Maybe this person had an affair or relationship with that new women server and that is when things went wrong...

Maybe there was harassment towards this women too??

Until OP comes back we won't know for sure. There is certainly more to the story - what it is, I don't know and it could be anything.

It wouldn't be the first time a pathological liar, started lies to try and destroy a person they didn't like... One person could get other people to lie the same lie, just by using cohersion so some sort.
Or they can just make you look bad, by saying things like does the shift manager look drunk to you, then the whole crew is watching you drink your ice tea like you might have gotten it from long island.
These destructive people often times don't even have a reason for their behavior. But a few rumors, then asking people to report something can ruin a job. But you know who you really are and it is just a job. Get socially connected to the community and treat every job with the politics that it warrants. Jobs come and go, don't let the rumor mill leave you feeling less than who you really are, give of yourself to your community and you will feel better. Do some networking and get an even better job!
If you ever find a manipulative liar on your team, again. Connect with them, ask them if they are happy with their work. Many times people with this immature behavior are people who where needy for attention and in need of guidelines for acceptable behavior. Good luck.
