What is the recommended replacement method for a 4" cast iron sewer pipe whose flange completely broke off? I have seen on other posts 1) Twist-N-SetŪ Cast Iron Replacement Closet Flange and 2) Torque set closet flange. Any recommendations?
Sewer gas - did I hook up to main sewer line correctly?

I can't remember who gave me advise (we had the smell coming up from our basement through our vents in the bathrooms). My husband went into the crawl and searched for cracks, etc. in the drain pipes. We started trying to track the smell (it gets stronger after showers and lots of water running)...

How do I know for sure if I have a broken sewer line? There is an area where our sewer line is that has what looks like dried paper.
