    I'm weird, part II
    Hello:

This is a continuation of the "I'm weird" series. I'm doing it again, because I'm even weirder than I thought I was.

You see, I've got this fork and spoon. I LOVE 'em. Now, I don't care what I'm eating, I HAVE to have my fork and/or my spoon. Even though I have a drawer full of perfectly clean and serviceable silverware, I'll plow through the dirty dishes, just so I can eat with my favorite utensil. I even obsess when I can't find 'em. Food has been known to get cold here when I'm looking, and I KNOW somebody stole my favorite tea spoon just to punish me. I haven't enjoyed tea since that disappeared.

    Yeah, I'm weird. You?

No, nothing weird on this end. Have some foibles to deal with though. I am a clean freak in my bathroom and kitchen. I get upset when I am out of Pinsol.

I get up at 0500H every day and do the same stuff, Melitta coffee from my Cuisenart, my Toronto Star, delivered at 0400H, etc.

I guess you would say I am normal to a degree.

I don't think you are weird because of the teaspoon. You are probably just 'died in the wool' and set in your ways like the rest of us.

    Good question by the way.

I can't eat ice cream without my little plastic spoon. I only have the one, and I refuse to eat ice cream unless it's available. It just tastes better with this little plastic spoon. The metal ones get too cold and the ice cream sticks to the spoon and ruins the taste. Ya, that's why! Really!

This may come as a HUGE surprise to some but...
I'm a ditz! I never can remember where I park my car when I go the mall or the grocery store when I'm by myself. You'd THINK I'd remember that I don't EVER remember but NOOOOO! AND it got really bad the other day because I was given a loaner car while mine was in the shop. I was wandering aimlessly, I mean I had NO IDEA. Some poor guy took pity on me and pulled up and told me he'd go down every isle and look for it if I could tell him what kind of car it was.. I had NO CLUE... all I knew was it was silver. It was embarrassing! I always think.. when's it going to end Tess? When's it going to end?

Jesushelper, I don't know why you are weird because I don't know you well enough. BUT maybe because you were BORN in 1976 and I was Sophomore in high school. That makes you pretty much a freak to me. Ha ha just kidding. I'm just jealous. ( I'm assuming you were born in 1976?) If not, then I got nuttin... so far you seem pretty normal to me.

Also thought of something else that makes me weird. I usually spill something on me when I eat. When I worked in an office, they use to guess what I had for lunch. Tee hee... thus the name CLASSY I oooze it. Ha ha

That should be "you're," not "your," dear little nephew. Excellence in grammar and punctuation and spelling are what make me lovable. I'm VERY lovable.

I never abbreviate you are. I spell it out. I don't think its acceptable to type you're.

    Sorry, just me, not you.

I really hate 'wanna' instead of want to.

Yes, it's (it is) acceptable to type "you're." Grammarians accept many contractions, especially in informal writing. For formal writing, you would (you'd) be correct.

In the same way, "don't" would be considered unacceptable.

I'm an expert on a grammar site, so I guess I'm always aware of misspellings and such like. And I do make mistakes myself (and cry all night because of them). Is this what makes me weird? Hmmmm...

I don't care about grammarians. As a very good administrative secretary years ago, my letter writing was impecable and I would never use you're in a business letter. Anyway in Pitman shorthand (yes, we used that back then) abbreviations are just unknown, In other words, 'you are' has to be completely recognizable in Pitman shorthand because the letter you took down that way, may not be typed for a day or so. There was no room for mis-interpretation.

However, I do see what you mean.

Not weird to be sanitized, Kit. As a healthcare worker I do the same, in fact I carry hand sanitizer around with me and use every time I think about it. Plus hands get washed immediately entering my house. Not an obssessive compulsive disorder just some things you have to do nowadays to keep disease away.

A business letter is considered formal writing, so, yes, you are correct about not contracting "you are" in one. You were a good administrative secretary because of grammarians, so please don't throw them out without a hug.
