    92 honda civic ignition problem
Hi-I have a 92 honda civic hatchback and am having a problem with the ignition. I was trying to replace some cluster lights and when I got back there, I turned the car on to test them. The car turned over fine and keep on running just fine, but when I went to shut off the car, the key would turn back to the off position and I could take it out, but the car would not shut off. Any ideas? Fuse somewhere? Something need to be plugged in that I missed?

You likely need to replace the ignition switch:

At a minimum, check it for wear, pitting, or melting.

Wouldn't the switch be fine though being that the car can still be turned on/turned over?

Not at all. My bet is that the switch is toast. Check it out.

Okay, the ignition switch works... There is power to it and I got the car to turn off now, but it created another problem or two. I got the ignition switch to turn the car off by pressing the hazard light switch (so it is pushed in and turned on). This made the ignition switch work somehow, but the hazard lights down work and neither do the indicator lights or the main cluster lights to light up the main guages. I don't know how that happened... If I press the hazard light switch again (into the off position) the car goes back to the same problem by not turning off it is running and the indicator lights and cluster lights don't work then either. I checked the fuses again to see if something might have fried while that happened, but nothing was found. What do you suggest?

Did you test all under dash and under hood fuses with a test light or multimeter? If so, then no other specific thoughts come to mind. Just start testing everything you can think of with your test light or multimeter. Electrical problems can be very stressful.

Thanks, I have a volt meter that I have been using... all I'm looking for is some kind of current going through wherever I touch correct?
