I have a faucet outside that when I turn on leaks water in the basement. What is it?
I have a faucet outside that is connected to the house. When I moved into the house in December I don't know if it was ever checked. I started to do some gardening today and used the hose that came with the house. It was still hooked up to the faucet. When I turned on the water it seemed to work fine,(no obvious leaking) however I did noticed more water coming out of the pipe that the water from our sump pump comes out. It hasn't rained in awhile. Later I went into the laundry room downstairs which is the same wall the faucet outside is hooked up to, and there is a bunch of water on the floor. What could be going on and any idea on how much it will cost to fix?

That is a sillcock and might be cracked from winter freezing. I had a frost proof sill cock still crack because I forgot and left a hose connected all winter. Is there another shut off anywhere along the pipe feeding this sillcock?

I can just about guarantee you that ballengerb is right. If you live in an area that freezes in the winter months and a hose was left on a frost free sillcock, it burst. You will need to replace this outside faucet. If you call a company to repair it you may pay 250 dollars depending on the situation.

Always remove those hoses in the wintertime - this is what causes this to happen. Take them off before "freeze time" arrives.

Aloha~ Our tub faucet still leaks AFTER I've turned of the water. I'm a little hesitant to go further into the repair as I don't know if there will still be water flowing. Oh, and it's the HOT water faucet that won't stop dripping. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am so mad, its dripping all over the floor when I wash. I put some putty dope on it, and that just doesn't work. It makes a hissing sound like pressure is building up in it. The back of my washer is all rusty and I had to move it away from the wall. What the heck is going on. Thanks:(
