    Ceiling fan hums
Fan just hums when turned on. When I pull the chain to change speed the hum changes, when I pull to turn off the hum stops, the blades spin free. It is a hampton bay. Help

Is it a remote fan? If so, does it have pullchains?

If no to the first question, and/or yes to the second, it's probably a bad capacitor. Cheap and easy fix.

If Yes/no, then probably a bad receiver.
