    Dry socket or just soreness?
    Hello!
Some of you know that I just got my wisdom teeth removed on the 9th, early in the morning. It's been about three days now.
I have been using the prescribed rinse twice a day and there's still a dull pain in my bottom jaw, especially on the bottom left. I can't really tell if the blood clot is still there, but it SEEMS to be. I've also been avoiding straws and eating soft foods. How long does it usually hurt?

Anytime you have teeth removed the entire area of the jaw will hurt like blazes for sometime. You need to remember that your jaw tissue has been now permanently adjusted and is missing an important area there in the back of your mouth. It's going to take several weeks if not a month for your jaw to properly close up. Are you smoking cigarettes or drinking carbonated sodas perchance? Smoking and sodas are a prime cause of retarded healing in your mouth.

If your extraction site is still bothering you after 10 days go back to the dentist and have him take a look.

I hope you didn't start rinsing GENTLY with the prescribed rinse until the day after your extractions. If you've rinsed too vigorously you could have loosened the blood clot.
Were you prescribed an antibiotic as well? I'd suggest you have the dentist who removed the teeth to take a look to be sure everything is OK.

I'm not smoking. And I am avoiding pop. I used the rinse that day, once. And then two times a day after. Every time, I let it sit in my mouth and held it there for twenty seconds to a minute. I just made sure it got to the site, and then I let it fall out of my mouth over the sink. I avoid spitting. If I have to I'm very careful. Mabe I'm just paranoid but I want to make sure I take good care of it. My pain prescription is Flurbiprofen. It's okay I just don't want to overuse it, even though it's a non-narcotic. It's a bearable but uncomfortable dull ache, not really painful. I was back at work early morning 11th and today. Mostly it's sore when I wake up, then I take the prescription and it dulls quite a bit. By the way, when I rinsed there was NO clot in the sink.
