    Bio-father causing problems
My son's father hates that my son call's my his step-dad daddy... he has been there since birth. Every time he hears him say it he calls me cussing and threatening to take me to court to get custody. I feel that step-parents earn that title because the child trust and loves that person, just the same if he called his step-mother mom or something... I feel it is unfair to tell me 3 yr old he is not allowed to call his step-dad daddy just to spare his fathers feelings... is this wrong of me and is there anything the bio-father can do legally to me for this?

There is absolutely NOTHING the Bio father can do. I am a step mom to two children. A 5 year old and a 12 year old. I have been in there lives for 4 1/2 years. I never told the children to call me mother. They took it upon themselves, even before their father and I were married.

The mother was not opposed to the 12 year old calling me mom, however she had a problem with the 5 year old calling me mom. No matter how much I would say "No I am your Jane" she would yell "No mommy". She wanted to call me mommy. Anyway, fast forward 2 years later, she now calls me "jane" and my stepson still calls me mommy.

The children are bonded to me, their mother has to get over it. I am there step MOM. I never try to replace their mom nor have I ever said a fowl word about her. It all just feel into place. In the beginning it was tough for their mother, which I could understand. Now that their father and I have a child it would kill me if she was calling another women mom. It even made me sad when my daughter called my mother mom a few times. I see both sides. However, Bio parents seem to think of step parents are replaceable being brought into a situation to either hurt or replace them. It's funny how the children seem to always be more mature about the situation.

Let your child call your husband what ever he wants. His Bio father feels threatened, maybe he should step up his game so he won't be so insecure. Good luck and trust that it will all work out in the end. It has for us! Oh yeah... their mother is remarried and guess what her daughter calls her step dad... DAD lol! My husband could careless as long as he treats his daughter with love and respect.
