    Is my washing machine leaking because the hose is too long?
    Hello,
    I just moved into a new apartment with washer and dryer connections in the bathroom. I have an old GE washer, and when I went to use it for the first time, water leaked all over the floor during the spin and rinse cycles. I determined that the leak is coming from the place where the drainage hose connects to the washer.
    Both the drain from the back of the washer and the entry into the wall drain pipe are about 30 inches from the floor. The hose is quite long (about 60 inches), so it loops down almost to the floor when connected to the drain pipe and the washer.
    Is the length of the hose possibly causing the problem? The drain comes out of the washing machine pointed towards the floor, but perhaps with a shorter hose it would still drain better, even though it would be pointed down?
    I'd appreciate some advice, since I'd rather fix this myself than call in a plumber.

    It would be best to use the shortest hose for your type of connection. The problem could be a kink in the hose causing it to back up.

    The hose is not kinked (I can see it behind the washing machine while it is running), but it essentially doubles back down to the floor before connecting to the drain pipe.
