As you can tell from my earlier postings that my girlfriend just broke up with me one week ago. She wants space and I am trying to give it to her but, the biggest thing I have been hearing is I need to love myself. Maybe I do need to love myself more but, how do I do that?

You can begin by taking better care of yourself in both big and small ways. I see by another post of yours that you are seeking help from a counselor -- that is a very good step. It was in counseling where I first learned that myself esteem had been damaged along the way and needed repair. And in repairing it with the help of a professional, suddenly behavoirs and choices were possible for me that had not been possible before. I found that to be a very cool experience.

In the meantime, find small easy ways to comfort yourself that are healthy. My favorite way today is one of the first ones I discovered -- a nice slow bath. But it could be anything that suits your taste as long as its healthy. If you aren't sure then be creative and try a bunch of things -- what you enjoyed, try again!

It just really means putting yourself first. That's what you need to do right now. Do the thins that you like to do and keep company with the friends you enjoy. If that means being in her presence occasionally, don't let that stop you. If you do see her socially, do so on your terms, not hers. In short, you make the rules for your own life and play by them. That's all it really is.
