Why does the outside condenser unit freeze up on 2 of the 4 sides?
I'm new to heat pumps and live in sunny fla. Where the temp is now below 30 degrees. Darn, I was going to go to the beach today... my outside condenser unit is freezing up on 2 out of 4 sides. Like a layer of frost covering it. Is this normal? I thought the heat pump cycles to prevent this. Should I "defrost ' it with a hose?

Coils freeze window ac unit. Why? [ 6 Answers ]

The coils keep freezing. I'm told it's a low freon issue from a friend. Is this true? The unit is nearing 7 years, and I don't recall having any problems with it , or ever charging it.
