How do I remove the remnants of the shower stem from the brass fitting? The metal was fatigued and most of the thread remains inside the brass fitting. Any suggestions?

I have tried teflon tape and joint compound on the new shower arm I installed and there is still a small leak. What options do I have to correct this problem? Can I epoxy the joint, can it be soldered? Thanks!
