How long does it generally take after defaulting before a credit card company will try to sue/freeze bank accounts/garnish wages?

Bankruptcy supersedes everything. If you file, the collection calls, the threats, the lawsuits, the bank account freeze -- it all stops! The other post is correct in that, there really is no yardstick or timeline used by creditors or collection agencies when accounts are in default. If a creditor wants to freeze your account or garnish wages, then they need a court order to do so. They can't just call up your bank and tell them to freeze your account. Wage garnishment, unless it's for IRS, or child support, or students loans, in most states, is illegal. Hope this helps HotMama2!
