Settled debt - but now getting court summons
    Hello-

Settled a debt in Texas. However, they never sent me proof that I did - even after I repeatedly asked for it. I do have proof of the settlement letter and offer - and I can point to bank records that the payment was sent to them - but never received a letter back from them.

Now I have an order to appear in court.

Did the debt company (Arrow Financial) lie to me and cash my check? Should I go to court as requested (would require me to buy a plane ticket since I live in Florida now).

    Thank you for any attention.

It sucks that you don't have the letter of settlement. However, having the offer letter along with proof that the debt was paid by the timeline indicated on the letter is Proof enough that the debt was paid. I would send a copy of it to the company you owe the money to since they are the ones that would be taking you to court or to the address that is listed on the communication that you have received in regards to this.

But yes, if you can't get the court case dismissed, you need to show up, or they will win a judgement against you.

Collection companies lie and cheat all the time,
