The new fixtures I purchased do not seem to fit onto the existing rough piping. The end of the pipes coming out of the wall and the notch on the inside of the fixtures (hot and cold knobs) do not match up.
Is this a product of an old tub (and piping)? Are there different types of fixtures I need to look for? Or do I need to replace the piping I the wall.. if that?

Can you b e a little more specific? What fixtures are you replacing? What doesn't line up, the drainage or the supplies? What's the drainage pipes made of? Let's have more details! Regards, Tom

I am a do it your self'er, so I don know all the proper terms.

I am replacing the hot and cold water knobs / fixtures in my bath. When I removed the old ones and tried to stick the new ones on, they didn't seem to fit. The inside of the fixture are a different shape as the end of the pipes coming out of the wall.
I suspect I have two options: 1.) get new fixtures - but what do I ask for... 2.) replace the pipes coming out of the wall to mathc the fixtures.

I hope this makes sense, and any advise is appreciated.

Take some pictures and post using "go advanced/manage attachments".

I'm having trouble too.

In any event, the connection from the angle stop (fancy name for th valve on the wall) should be standard and usually 3/8 compression.

Would that 3/8ths be OD or ID? I've been retired for over 20 years but all the angle stops I've ever installed for lavatories have been 1/2" compression coming outta the wall and 1/4" compression for the supply. Have things changed? Regards, tom

Lists them as OD.

Bermuda, you cannot fit any trim you buy on to your existing rough-in. It is like you cannot fit Ford engine parts on Toyota truck. You have to know who is the original manufacturer of your rough and than to investigate which trim will fit onto the stems. There are some Third party companies that make trim compatible with various faucets. Also, you may be able to purchase a conversion kit that will mount on your stems giving you the correct configuration for your handles.

It would be great if you could snap a photo of your rough and trim so we can try to ID it for you. With this info, we will be able to help you locate trim that will fit your rough-in.

They do make universal replacement knobs, (see image) whould these fit? Regards, Tom
